NEW COURSE OFFERING!
MS604
Apologetics and Polemics in Ministry Among Muslims

Mondays . 8:00-11:00am Eastern (New York)

As Jesus and His disciples modeled similar ministry methods in the New Testament, this course equips students to apply apologetics (defending the truth) and polemics (exposing and refuting error) in ministry among Muslims. Students will learn how to respond to common Muslim claims, e.g., that the Bible is corrupt, that Jesus only claimed to be a mortal prophet, and that Christians have gone astray. In addition, the class will explore the work of popular scholars, such as Jay Smith and others, who question the standard Islamic narrative about the origin of Islam.

This course will be taught by Dr. Fred Farrokh and Dr. Steve Krstulovich.

Rev. Dr. Fred Farrokh is an international trainer with Global Initiative: Reaching Muslim Peoples and an ordained missionary with Elim Fellowship. Before joining Global Initiative, Fred served as Executive Director of Jesus for Muslims Network in Metro New York, and special projects officer with SAT-7 in Cyprus. A Christian of Muslim background, he completed his PhD in Intercultural Studies through Assemblies of God Theological Seminary in 2014, with a dissertation on Muslim identity. He also directs Wasla Media, a YouTube channel for Muslim-background believers.

MS620
A Chronological Reading of the Qur’an
and the Islamic Narrative of Muhammad

Tuesdays & Fridays . 8:30-10:00am Eastern (New York)

This course gives Muhammad a thorough hearing as students read through the Qur’an and the Sira, the oldest biography of his life. This course decodes the Qur’an and explains Muhammad’s ever-evolving narrative. It enables students, as an ‘academic jury’ throughout the semester, to render a verdict on Muhammad’s message based on his own words. Only Muslim clerics and intellectuals study these source documents at this academic level. MS620 will equip students to engage in conversations to the spiritual benefit of their Muslim friends, colleagues and neighbors. This course is rigorous yet rewarding.

MS620 is taught by Rev. Dr. Benjamin Lee Hegeman, (aka, "Papa Ben") a life-long, missiological researcher on Islam, a curriculum-writer, and a teacher with long-term experience in ministry to Muslims, in language learning, in cross-cultural missional ministry (Canada, Benin, Niger), and in pastoral care (Canada, Benin, Niger and the US). Together with his wife Christine, he has over 35 years of overseas experience working with Christians, traditional worshippers, and Muslims. He has taught all levels from bush schools to PhD students. He is passionate for disciple-making and missionary vision-casting. He is able to teach in Dutch, English, French and Baatonu.

“The world in which we live today is confronted with catastrophic changes unparalleled in human history and the Church is going to be tasked with discovering how to live side by side, step by step in harmony and yet with distinction, beside or alongside, a very aggressive and uniquely monotheistic faith. For these reasons and more I envision The Lilias Trotter Center helping the Church … as we seek to share Him with those who do not yet know and love Him.”

- David E. Dick,
VP at Large (and former International Director), One Mission Society
